The Student Success Centre (SSC) has designed a 4-day programme, which takes place on 30 June–1 July 2025 and 3-4 July 2025, to provide you with the support and resources you need to make a smooth academic transition to SMU.
This programme consists of the following:

UniReady (2 days)
Gain invaluable insights into academic success by learning how to:
- Communicate effectively and understand your personal communication style.
- Navigate SMU’s learning platforms with ease.
- Hone your research skills and complete LIB001 Library Research Skills ahead of schedule.
- Interact with alumni and seniors who have gone through the same journey.
- Provide you access to a peer support network.
Get READy, Write Now! (2 days)
To succeed in your first year, you will need to be able to read critically and write effectively. This is especially true in your Core Curriculum modules such as Writing and Reasoning, and Big Questions. Join us for this workshop and learn how to:
- Formulate a Clear Position
- Evaluate Secondary Sources
- Create Coherent Written Pieces
- Use Appropriate Referencing Style

Head Start For International Students only
The Student Success Centre (SSC) has developed a comprehensive 1-day version of the Head Start programme on 8 August 2025, tailored for international students. This programme aims to provide the necessary support and resources for a smooth academic transition to SMU.

English Language Support Programme (ELSP) For International Students only
The ELSP is designed to support international students in using English effectively to succeed at the university. Through the programme, students will learn various strategies to enhance their writing and speaking skills, engage actively in class discussions, contribute meaningfully to team projects, and improve overall communication. The Centre for English Communication (CEC) will reach out to students with more details about the programme closer to the start of the term.
